If I enlist in the Army...?

I plan to enroll in the DEP program this May. Then enlist in the us army as a 68w. I have done my research and know that I will go to BCT then AIT. Recently, I came across a youtube video about the trauma lanes in NTC at Fort Irwin California. I understand that it prepares soldiers for combat without actually being in combat. Do soldiers only go to NTC if they are being prepared to deploy. Also if you can give me any information about what to expect from DEP it would be appreciated.
