Lots of crying!?

I have a colicky 6 week old that cries terribly in the evenings. We try everything to make him stop and the health visitor has recommended using a dummy (pacifier) to help sooth him. The thing is he hates it and wont have it in his mouth! Did any one elses baby hate their dummies and if so, did they ever have one in the end? Perhaps he will grow to like it as very occasionally he will have a little suck but as it is at the moment he is not comfortuing from it. Will he ever like a dummy?
