Doctor's don't tell patients anything about the cost, because most of the time they don't know anyway. They frequently order tests and prescribe medication without considering what the cost to the patient might be. I just got a bill for lab work totaling $800 because the doctor's office sent the blood across the street to the hospital to be tested. I had no idea they would do that. So I'm not a very happy camper either. I doubt if you have any recourse. You can dispute the bill, but in the end you'll probably lose.
